Our Neighborhood

Existing for over 200 years, the Faubourg Marigny is considered New Orleans’ first suburb and is the city’s second oldest neighborhood after the French Quarter. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, it has been designated one of 10 Great Neighborhoods for 2009 by the American Planning Association’s Great Places in America program.

Recognizing that some guests may need current events coverage, all bedrooms are equipped with a television, but we hope that you will be able to enjoy all the culture provided by the New Orleans museums, galleries and historic places, as well as some of the country’s best restaurants, jazz and blues clubs.

As people generally stay in Collinwood House to get away from the busy commercial hotels, we can assure all the privacy you desire. A rustic, lush courtyard garden with overlooking gallery balcony and a balcony on the front of the house provides exterior areas to relax and enjoy our glorious weather without ever leaving the property.

Something for everyone can be found in the French Quarter and many of the delightful elements of the Garden District. There are gambling and river boats in the Central Business District or explore tree covered avenues of beautiful homes and the historic City Park, home to the New Orleans Museum of Art.

We try to remain current in our knowledge of happenings in New Orleans such as the many festivals throughout the year in addition to our world-famous Mardi Gras. Having sampled many of the tours and experiences available through various cultural venues, we can recommend our favorites or leave you to discover New Orleans on your own. Transportation to nearby plantations of interest can be arranged on a personal request basis and we have established relationships with many of the galleries that offer arts, jewelry, antiques and other unique items. We can also refer you to a wide variety of restaurants depending on what types of cuisine you have on your list to sample and can make suggestions for new experiences.
